Mariners Cove residents left distraught & homeless
THE Caymanian Compass published a story about John McKibbon's experience in our first hurricane edition a few weeks ago, since that time John had recovered some photographs he took from a low resolution digital camera before Hurricane Ivan.
Here we take a look at his before and after compilation from the Mariners Cove complex in Spotts and also photos taken from his car, driving around the area.
Before & After Photographs – click the images to enlarge.
Image 1. Left (before): A view looking out from my 2nd story bedroom balcony.
Right (after): The after is the same view of the pool area, but now I am standing in once was my dining room area. This is now the only standing tree on the property.
Image 2. Left (before): This was the ground floor, looking towards the ocean (the curtains were closed that morning). Right (after): The after shows the same view. Only the foundation remains.
Image 3. Left (before) & Right (after): This was the view walking out of my front door. We faced the tennis court.
Image 4. Left (before): This was the managements office. Right (after): You can see it in the previous photo too. The units slid across the tennis courts and when they hit the management building they broke in half. I lost everything.
Image 5. Left (before): This was the view when I turned left into the morning traffic heading towards town. Right (after): This shows how destructive the hurricane was to the south side of the island.
Images 6, 7, 8 and 9. Left (before) & Right (after): I thought this was the most serene portion of my drive. This was also part of my jogging route too.
